Since 2005, Neel Kanase, M.D. has been the owner of American Laser Med Spa. He started out with one clinic and now has six clinics total, five located throughout Texas and one in New Mexico, with over twenty-five employees. It’s through this exciting avenue of cosmetic medicine that he’s found his home and calling, helping clients find more self-confidence to do what they love to do best.
After moving from India in 1995 with his degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.D.), which he received from the University of Bombay, Grant Medical College, Neel moved to Texas and made his home in the panhandle. There he attended Texas Tech University to receive his Master of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition, and then completed his Residency in Family Medicine at Texas Tech University, and was given prestigious recognition by his colleagues as:
• Outstanding First Year Resident (1998-1999)
• Outstanding Resident Teacher (1999-2000)
• Resident’s Choice Award (2000-2001)
• Resident Teacher Award (2000-2001)
• Outstanding Resident of the Year Award (2000-2001)
. . . as well as being named Chief Resident for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centers Family Medicine Residency Program.
Neel has always placed great value on education and constant improvement, which is why he has attended Harvard Medical School annually for Laser and Aesthetic Skin Therapy CME training since 2009. He is licensed to practice medicine in Texas and New Mexico. His professional affiliations for cosmetic medicine are:
• Fellow with the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS)
• Founding Member of Goldman Circle American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS)
• Member of the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association
• Member of the Botox Cosmetic Physician Network
Neel’s family in India was from the middle class, but he was always inspired by his parents desire to sacrifice whatever they could to help him and his two siblings achieve more. From early on, this type of attention to creating a better child, and therefore a better world, has been a concept that Neel has embraced in everything he has pursued. It also taught him the value of never backing away from a goal, even if it’s driven from fear. One of these fears was of heights. He started steps to conquer it by making several attempts to sky dive, but the weather never got him off the ground. Eventually, Neel sought out a different route to overcome this fear and received his pilot’s license, and also found an exciting opportunity by becoming an Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA from 2003-2008.
Aside from his family, education is another thing that has always inspired Neel and he’s known to make the annual trek to Warren Buffet’s shareholders meeting so he can learn from him about both business and fortune.
For inspiration, Neel is passionate about the inspirational teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. It’s this mindset that has really guided Neel in his passions for creating stronger communities with involved, caring citizens.
